Changes in October 2010
From October 2010 the driving test will incorporate a new section of independent driving.
Normally the examiner gives directions on a junction by junction basis. These take the form of phrases such as ‘Take the next road on the left’ or ‘At the roundabout, take the road off to the right, the third exit.’
From October 2010 at some point the examiner will ask you to pull to the side of the road. They will then ask you to drive following road signs or other directions for a period of up to ten minutes.
In preliminary assessments this has resulted in an increased failure rate as many instructors do not teach the necessary skills. As our training is based on being competent, confident and consistent in all the skills necessary to drive safely once you have a licence we have been teaching these skills for years and have no concerns that it will affect our incredible success.
